Territory

Territory is a large system on this game, and it adds several layers of nuance to the politics and the grid. +Where and +Map are both tied to this system as well.

A District is one of the 9 major areas. This is the first layer of the +map. The second layer is the Neighborhoods (+map/sphere). The map to to help visualize this is here: Maps Districts being the areas with shared color and the neighborhoods being the named zones within them. The third layer is going to be the builds within the neighborhoods. A fourth layer is more IC than coded with @dig. This is the +map/praxis and +map/undercity - These have the areas 'claimed' by the Kindred Princes.

The Praxes are sort of an overlay. These are areas the Princes claim and have held as 'areas where they hold sway over' for businesses, for Kindred, for where they get their power from. This takes behind the scenes negotiations with the other factions that control those Districts. The Werewolves might control North Side, but Enrico Salvatore has a lot of power to flex in that area - so negotiating is better than a head to head clash. And it does put the South Praxis at a disadvantage, thematically, to not have vampiric control over a district in which they have claimed for their Praxis. They have no place where they have not had to negotiate or are simply neutral to, such as the Far Southeast (FE).

Districts: To flip a district 3/4's of the Neighborhoods within must be held by that faction. For example, to flip Southwest (SW) to Vampiric control, 9 of 12 neighborhoods would have to be controlled by vampire pcs.

Neighborhoods: Smaller parcels, more to claim traditional territory in the sense of a wolf pack claiming a space as their own. This is where most of the Territory action is going to happen. Private builds are never on the block for bring controlled - so no one has to worry that their home will be taken over by funky Changelings in an offense move.

People that control a neighborhood receive several benefits. Every Neighborhood has a Unique Bonus, gives a Beat kickback when a merit associated with that square is purchased, a specialty they can access without paying for, and +2 dice to react to ambushes and surprises when in their home turf. (The list of goodies: Territory Table )

+Where has been build so that you will always knows which faction controls what, where a place is for joining RP, and how high the mundane risk of violence in that area is (based loosely off rl statistics).

The Nuance:

None of the above things are meant to be limiters. An Undercity Kindred can pitch a tent in North praxis turf - though they may end up owing Enrico a few favors and be treated like a potential spy. So it's less a barrier and more a 'keep this in the back of your mind'.

A Changeling building a home or business in North Side (NS) may wind up negotiating with Werewolves (They control NS), and potentially (less likely than the wolves) with the North Praxis Prince. Favors may be traded, behaviors expected, coins or resources - a bit like paying rent or a protection racket. This can vary from Neighborhood to Neighborhood as they become more claimed. I expect that if rules will be imposed on a square a post will be made to +bboard 11 (Territory Discussion as +bbpost 11/(District Abbreviation) - (Neighborhood Name)) with the rules laid out. Again, this is between pcs and can be negotiated, etc.

The legalities: The faction that controls an area will be the judge and jury for that area. Tom the Vampire owns a place and a wolf left a mess? The wolf has to answer to the prince that holds sway over the District the offense on Vamp owner territory happened on. So knowing where you are, who is in control, and who you can maybe buy, or work with or not can be reasonably important if something goes tits up.

Spying, espionage, counter-intelligence, push back, and general *fuckery* are expected and encouraged. This is meant to be one of those big ways that people can 'fight' one another without 'real' pvp/pk happening. Cut deals, get people to throw in on your side, bribe people to bail on someone trying to get territory. All attempts to claim will be posted to bb10 as there are ways to find out who is trying to make a claim on an area. This is a fantastic arena for M/M+ to shine in as well, they get bonuses to coins that are used for extra dice. And a great way to use +resources and coins to bribe each other and make some complicated, political type mischief.
