Between 2009 and 2019 there was a group of paranormal enthusiasts and investigators who operated under the aegis and title of Haunt Investigation Team, with their "missions" being archived and edited before they were presented to a paid subscription service. No field team was able to access the records of previous "missions" without direct approval from Operations Control, a mysterious figure who founded the organization and funded most of its day-to-day costs.

On January 1st, 2019, a five-person team encountered an event in an upstate Illinois township, Bentley, population 153. Upon entering town they found their cellphones and long-range communications equipment was no longer functional and their vehicles, an H3 Hummer called "The Growler" and the 1972 Ford Econoline van titled "Miss Fitz" would not start nor shift gears. Within five hours of arriving at the target location, a former hostel turned bloodbath site in 1919, the entire team was wounded, dead or missing.

The team consisted of:

  1. Lead: Janet K. Miller, 15-year veteran of the US Army; KIA

  2. Medical Officer: Mel "Patch" Simpson, former chief of medicine, UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco, KIA

  3. Technician: Erin E. Pearson, 23-year veteran of aeronautical engineering, MIA

  4. Technician: Jordan P. Hensley, 9-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, KIA

  5. Camera Operator: "Morgan 'Boom' Navarro", occupation unknown prior to enrollment in H.I.T., MIA

The details of that mission were never archived officially and two of the members, Erin E. Pearson and "Morgan Navarro" are being sought in connection with the deaths of the other team members. No reward is officially listed anywhere public, although rumors persist that Operations Control will pay handsomely for the return of the footage captured by the team itself.

There was no official police inquiry into the events that took place in Bentley, Illinois.
