We tell ourselves stories in order to live.
~ Joan Didion; "The White Album" (1979)

Background

Damon cant recall much of his Time Before, only that he was small, and he watched a lot of television. At some point, He saw how Damon liked to step in when little kids on the playground got bullied, and always managed to distract them and cheer them up from the horrible things that had just happened to them, so it was decided Damon would now do that, for Him.

So many little ones. So frightened and terrified, some crying from the abuse they had been subjected to, some still bawling for their Mommies. But Damon learned quickly, if he could not stop the crying, the abuse would soon be visited on him, and if he proved to be consistently useless, They could always think of something far worse to visit on the source of their ire.

But stories....he could tell the little ones stories of far off places, loving homes they could dream about, with words so vivid one could imagine oneself there, and truly indeed forget about where they actually were. Fascinated, exhausted, and finally asleep with faint little smiles on their faces, until the nex few returned the next day with tears down their faces, some looking much different than they had left in the morning.

He doesn't really know how long this went on. Every time a little one he had comforted to sleep the night before, returned with fresh bruises, fresh tears, newly mangled appendages, in some cases new appendages entirely, a little more of the boy from the playground was ripped away and tossed into the trash can. He can't really say whether or not there's anything left in there, but at some point he realized...he had to leave. And take as many of the little ones as he could, with him.

Managing to make it through the Hedge with a few of his charges, finding a new home for them in New York, before being able to set off on his own. With one foot still sorta squarely in his myriad worlds of make believe and happiness, he almost immediately gravitated to Spring, and tends to find places that need volunteers, especially libraries that have 'children's storytimes', where he can rapidly convince the staff that he's the PERFECT person to read stories to the kids every week...

RP Hooks

Dot black-mini.png Friend to the New: Deeply empathetic with children.

Dot black-mini.png HR Kith: Storyteller: Most people have heard the idea of Scheherazade and how she was able to save her own life by constantly keeping the very man that was set to kill her, entranced for over a thousand nights until he finally set her free. Much like the enchanting abilities the Nightsinger possesses with her song, the Storyteller has been infused with the ability to tell a story so enchanting, so vivid, that he can make grown individuals forget the rest of their concerns, focusing entirely on the story unfolding in their ears (and often, accompanied by visual cues added to the moment by the Storyteller. Mechanically, this kith works identically to the Nightsinger, however, all of the aspects around his power relates to spoken word, NOT his ability to sing (in fact, his singing specifically will NOT be able to enchant the same way.

Dot black-mini.png Time Is a Commodity: Donates it at local libraries.

Peter Gabriel - ~ In Your Eyes
Love I get so lost sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
The grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
