Uptown

Description

Uptown is one of the densest and most diverse regions of the Far North, containing significant Native, Middle Eastern, Asian and Latino populations. Unfortunately, unlike the rest of the Far North, Uptown has not benefited greatly from the exodus to the outer Burroughs. Reliant on on commercial and shipping industries in the 19th and early 20th centuries, expanding infrastructure and the Great depression stole what little success Uptown enjoyed. A succession by the more wealthy and affluent sections of Uptown to form Edgewater further sealed the areas fate as one of the poorest areas in Northern Chicago. Yet the legacy of the early gilded age remain, with renowned, ancient theatres and comedy clubs, intermingling with newer ethnic restraints. Even more amusingly, recent housing price increases in the rest of the Far North and especially edgetown have pushed many to seek housing in Uptown instead.
