Northwood Park is yet another Far North community of the idealized American dream, with single family home ownership the standard. Confined by two large streams to keep out the Riff-raff, Northwood enjoys a pleasant, upper-middle class ambiance in stark comparison to many less affluent districts. Northeaster Illinois University and North Park University further lead credibility to this affluent, above it all atmosphere. Of particular note is the North Park Village, a senior citizen housing project re-purposed from the infamous Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. Even more charming is the 46 acres of nature preserve named the North Park Village Nature Center.
