Description

Formerly Ainsworth, this large lakefront neighborhood is home to the oldest settlement of Mexican Latinos in Chicago as well as Our Lady of Guadalupe, home to the oldest Mexican parish in Chicago. This is an area that not too long ago was incredibly violent and historically has never known peace due to gang wars and racist policies against the community, making the people here friendly, but wary.

Where the steel mill used to be a massive park plan is being undertaken as well as several city initiatives to help revitalize and grow South Chicago into a better position. Of course, there are those opposing it, calling it gentrification and actively working to sabotage those actions.
